Utawarerumono: Itsuwari no Kamen Ep. 4 - The Imperial Capital

Now, the party arrives at the capital while we watch bath scenes and get some character development, but not much plot.

After arriving at the capital, they meet Ukon's sister Nekone, and Kuon got REALLY excited to take a hot bath. She's really fanatic about it, and it was funny to watch her acting all crazy. Plus, we got a bath scene, and who's gonna complain? And although the show focused more on the girl's features, the male characters got their own naked screen time too. They were portrayed  also on Rurutie's yaoi fantasies, showing their abs for the delight of the female audience.

I liked this part because, beyond the boobs, we can see that both Haku and Kuon think the same about their relationship. And instead of being a platonic relationship, or a romantic relationship filled with sexual tension, they care for each other, and Kuon is kinda responsible for him.

It's a beautiful city indeed
After that, Nekone gives them a tour of the city and tries to impress Haku, with no success. He just doesn't react to anything she says. He got a job and she sees that he has something good and that he's more similar to his brother than she thought. But things aren't that easy and the job doesn't pay much. Plus, everyone discover something about Haku: he can't read.

That took me by surprise! It was great how it seems not to have affected Haku up to this point, and how lazy and indifferent he is not to even try to know what those 'symbols' are.

Haku's new job
At the last part of the episode, we discover that Ukon and Oshutaru are the same person, and the only one to have figured it out was Kuon. Ukon asks Haku to work for him but didn't talk about it yet. Also, they all go to bath again, and the episode ends with a scene that got me really excited for the next.

Final thoughts:
  • This episode is more focused on character development than on the story, but I enjoyed that approach. It's great to let the story happen naturally.
  • Nevertheless, there are some promising plots starting to emerge.
  • Nekone is a nice addition to the cast. Not something unique, but well developed anyway.
  • All three of the girls are extraordinarily cute.
  • Haku is a great character, and I like the way he thinks :P
  • HOT BATHS. Liked the fanservice, but it was great to watch how Kuon is crazy about them.

Rating: 5 stars (as always)
