Even being a comic book nerd (ok, not THAT big), I've never read any Daredevil comics. Maybe because the entire Marvel universe seemed too big a commitment for me, and for a long time I neglected it's publications. But now I need to say that I'm really interested in getting into the Daredevil comics, thanks to the amazing show that Netflix recently released. As always, the hype for the launch of a new series got me eager to watch it, and I wasn't disappointed.
The whole first season is kind of a 'origin story', showing us how Matt Murdock ended-up being the Daredevil. But it doesn't spend much time showing Matt as a kid or before being a crime-fighting vigilante lawyer. Instead, we have some flashbacks blended during the episodes in a way that helps us understanding what's going on, and the reasons of the character's actions, but without being boring or full of nostalgia, just the right amount of it.
Maybe it's strange to see Matt using only some regular black clothes and a mask (more like a bandanna) instead of his red costume, but I really appreciated to watch him on the start of his 'career', so to speak. Also about his uniform, I liked the new red-and-black design, it worked better on screen than the classic would. It's like... he's trying to be sneaky, and not flashy and shiny so every bad guy could see him better.
This first season told a great story, and hooked me in a way that I'm already anxiously awaiting the upcoming seasons, and hoping that maybe someday we'll get a Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan series. That would be awesome. And don't forget that Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and The Defenders are already planned. Thumbs up for the Marvel-Netflix pairing.
