Here, the town residents don't need to run from zombie orders and arm themselves to prepare for the apocalypse. Instead, they have problems related to the government, a quarantine isolating them from the rest of the world, and other troubles caused by the regular living people.
As the story goes, I was slowly discovering some new layers of the story, some new mysteries were presented, and a few questions were answered. I followed Dana Cypress as she dealt with the revivers, her father, sister, and the regular human citizens of Wausau. The revivers have some healing abilities and seem to become more violent as they try to understand and deal with what's happening to them.
But if it's hard for the revivers to handle things, it's not easier for the humans. Things start to get messy as now the police have a new task force for reviver related problems, and yet needs to prevent people getting in or out of the quarantined area.
The art is wonderful, being detailed and eerie at the same time. It transmits the emotions and actions very well, being a perfect match for Seeley's narrative, and the story setting. Norton really did an outstanding work here.
I liked how the story presents us a lot of questions and just a few answers. The book gets the job done and hooks the reader in a way that is hard to not read it in one sitting. The mystery is very well balanced between surreal and real, horror and drama, exposition and secrecy. It's not about zombies, but how do we handle an entirely new an unexpected situation. After finishing it, I was eager to start volume 2: Live Like You Mean It.
