Started reading: Caught Dead Handed (A Witch City Mystery #1), by Carol J. Perry

Yesterday I started reading Caught Dead Handed (A Witch City Mystery #1), by Carol J. Perry. It takes place in Salem, and for what I read until now (10% of the book), sounds very interesting and promising. The main character is nice, and the setting is intriguing and got me hooked. The second book in the series, Tails, You Lose, will be released TOMORROW!

Most folks associate the city of Salem, Massachusetts, with witches but Lee Barrett calls it home. This October she's returned to her hometown - where her beloved Aunt Ibby still lives - to interview for a job as a reporter at WICH-TV. But the only opening is for a call-in psychic to host the late-night horror movies. It seems the previous host, Ariel Constellation, never saw her own murder coming. Lee reluctantly takes the job, but when she starts seeing real events in the obsidian ball she's using as a prop, she wonders if she might really have psychic abilities.

Friday Reads 03/27/15

Another weekend coming, another Friday Reads to show what I've done this week. I'm very busy this week, working late but still managed to get some time to read.

I've started reading The Adventure Time with Fionna and Cake, a wonderful comics with the gender-bent characters of Adventure Time. At the same time, I started again (after a loooonnggg pause) reading The Pulp Fiction Megapack. Finished one story, Mistress of Snarling Death, and I'm reading now Fiances for the Devil's Daughter. And I finished the first story arc for Gotham Academy, that concluded on issue #6. It was amazing!!

I bought 2 books for my kindle, a cozy mystery (Caugh Dead Handed - A Witch City Mystery Book #1) and a fantasy/paranormal romance (Fields of Elysium). The first is probably what I'll read after I decide to stop the Pulp Megapack again. The second will be put on a waitlist but was interesting and very cheap, so that's why I bought it!

On a side note, watched the first episode of Star vs the Forces of Evil AND OMG IT'S SO GOOD!!!!

Judging by its cover: The Harvest (The Heartland Trilogy #3) by Chuck Wendig

"You can't judge a book by its cover". This is one of the sayings that sure most readers end up doing without even realizing it. The reason for it is easy to imagine: the cover is usually the first thing we see (or know) about a book. We don't read the synopsis or summary without seeing the cover first, and even when someone recommends a book and you go search for more info you end up seeing the cover.

Regardless of the book being good or not, and that we base (or not) our reading interest by it, the point is that the cover is always something that can generate interest. And that's the case of a new book released this week: The Harvest
The Harvest (The Heartland Trilogy #3) by Chuck Wendig
Publisher: Skyscape
Release date: July 14th 2015
When Cael awakens from a Blightborn sleep, miles away from the world he remembers, he sets out across the Heartland to gather his friends for one last mission. As the mechanicals, a war flotilla, and a pack of feral Empyrean girls begin to close in on the Heartland, there isn’t much time to make their next move. But if they can uncover a secret weapon in time, Cael and his friends might just find themselves with the power to save the world — or destroy it — resting in their hands.

I loved the cover and, of course, I went to search for more information about this trilogy. It's a dystopic ( =/ ) steampunk ( :D ), that has sci-fi and fantasy elements ( =DD ). The premise is basically about a rebellion against a government that only allows corn to be planted, and that lives on sky flotillas while the workers try to survive on land. After the release of this last book on the trilogy, I'll search for reviews and decide if I'll read it. Looks very interesting!

Friday Reads 03/20/15

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog! This is my first post, and I'll be commenting what I read this week, and telling you my plans for the weekend and the next week.

Finished this week

Yesterday I (finally) finished the second book of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy series: The Restaurant at the end of the Universe! It's very funny and almost as good as the first one. There are a lot of good jokes, but the plot didn't hook me as the first book in the series. Anyway, I'd give it four stars!

And today I've finished Seraphina. I started it exactly 2 weeks ago and I LOVED it! It has dragons, music, a lovely main character, some (but not too much) romance, intrigue, and mystery. I really recommend it.

Comics

This week I read the second issue of Princess Leia, and I'm loving it! It'll only be five issues, so only three more editions to finish this story. You should all give it a try, at least if you are a Star Wars fan.

What's Next

I'll resume reading Dragonquest, which I stopped some weeks ago, and maybe I'll read one or two stories from The Pulp Fiction Megapack I have o my kindle. About comics, I wish to be able to finish reading Chew - Omnivore Edition Vol. 2. And I'll try to at least start listening to The Scarifyers! Good weekend and good reading to everyone :D
