Black Canary is dangerously great

As I continue my journey to discover great new comics, the next series on my list was Black Canary, another DC Comics new series. Yes, I'm really going to try a bunch of these new DC titles. Black Canary is another character that I was interested but never read anything with them. Now that she has her own series, it's easier for me to try something.

Here, Dinah Drake recently signed to be Black Canary's frontwoman on a new tour. And as D.D's enemies are always after her, she's constantly being involved in fights and end up destroying the venues where the band is playing. Of course, that starts affecting the band's reputation, making them wonder if they'll be able to finish the tour. And when D.D. and the rest of the band find out what those strangers are looking for, they realize that they'll need to be together or bad things will happen.

This series starts spinning out of Batgirl, but anyone can start reading it, without even having to read the free sneak peek because it's a solid stand-alone story. It also has great female characters, an interesting and intriguing story, and a very 'rock-n-roll' (or punk rock) art. This kind of interior art is not my favorite, but it goes really well with the story being told, and it's really terrific.

The character development is good, and the pacing is very nice too, presenting the story and the characters to readers without getting slow or making everyone sleepy. I enjoyed these first 2 issues a lot, and I'll be reading the next one for sure!
